A recent social media post provides an excellent example. It begins by discussing interoception—a legitimate field of neuroscience that studies how the brain perceives signals from within the body, including heartbeat, breathing, hunger, and pain. Everything sounds credible at first. Researchers really do study interoception. It is an important area of neuroscience.
Then something changes.
Without warning, the discussion moves from scientific observation to metaphysical certainty.
Suddenly, bodily sensations are no longer simply physical signals. They become evidence of hidden spiritual realities, ancestral energies, cosmic memories, and mystical knowledge.
This pattern is becoming increasingly common.
When Science Becomes a Trojan Horse
The strategy is remarkably effective because it rarely begins with obvious spiritual claims.
Instead, the conversation often follows a predictable progression.
First comes legitimate science.
Then comes speculative interpretation.
Finally comes spiritual certainty.
The reader has already accepted the scientific premise, so the unsupported spiritual conclusions often feel equally credible.
But they are not.
Science can measure heart rate.
Science can study stress responses.
Science can identify neural pathways.
Science cannot determine whether a racing heart represents “recognition,” whether a tight throat contains ancestral memories, or whether a person’s body is accessing hidden spiritual information.
Those claims are philosophy—not neuroscience.
What Is Interoception?
Interoception is simply the brain’s awareness of internal bodily conditions.
It explains why you recognize thirst before dehydration becomes dangerous.
It helps regulate body temperature.
It contributes to emotional awareness because emotions often produce measurable physical responses.
None of this is controversial.
It is well-established neuroscience.
The problem begins when someone claims that interoception is actually evidence for mystical perception or hidden spiritual abilities.
It isn’t.
Recognizing your heartbeat is not the same as perceiving spiritual truth.
“Science Finally Proved Ancient Wisdom”
One of the most common New Age rhetorical devices is the statement:
Science is finally confirming what ancient wisdom always knew.
At first glance, that sounds reasonable.
After all, science occasionally validates observations people made long ago.
But notice what happens next.
Instead of remaining within the boundaries of scientific evidence, the argument usually expands into ideas that science has never demonstrated.
The scientific terminology becomes a doorway through which entirely different beliefs enter.
Readers often fail to notice where science ends and speculation begins.
The Akashic Records
In this particular example, the author identifies herself as an “Akashic Reader.”
That statement is significant.
The Akashic Records are a New Age concept originating largely from nineteenth-century Theosophy and later occult philosophy. They describe an invisible cosmic archive containing the history, thoughts, experiences, and future possibilities of every soul.
According to this belief, spiritually awakened individuals can access this hidden library to obtain supernatural knowledge.
Nothing resembling the Akashic Records appears anywhere in Scripture.
Instead, the Bible consistently teaches that God alone possesses perfect knowledge.
“The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever.” — Deuteronomy 29:29 (KJV)
Christians are never instructed to seek hidden knowledge through mystical techniques.
“The Body Doesn’t Lie”
The post also makes several absolute declarations:

These statements are presented as spiritual facts.
Yet no evidence is offered because none exists.
The body certainly communicates important information.

But assigning universal spiritual meanings to every physical sensation moves beyond medicine into mysticism.
Scripture never teaches believers to interpret bodily sensations as divine revelation.
Instead, Christians are repeatedly directed to God’s revealed Word as the objective standard for truth.

Ancestral Contracts and Lineage Patterns
Another claim suggests that our bodies perceive:
- inherited tension,
- ancestral contracts,
- lineage patterns.
This language has become increasingly common in New Age coaching, energy healing, and spiritual counseling.
While psychology recognizes that trauma can affect families across generations through environment, learned behavior, and even certain biological mechanisms, “ancestral contracts” belong to an entirely different category.
They describe invisible spiritual agreements supposedly inherited from previous generations.
Scripture teaches no such doctrine.
Each person is accountable before God for his own response to Him.
The solution to sin is not breaking hidden ancestral contracts.
It is repentance and faith in Jesus Christ.
“Science Meets the Sacred”
Perhaps the most revealing statement is this:
“Interoception is where science meets the sacred.”
Notice the subtle shift.
The scientific concept itself has not changed.
Only its interpretation has.
Legitimate neuroscience becomes presented as evidence for mystical spirituality.
This is precisely how modern deception often works.
False teaching rarely rejects established knowledge.
It reinterprets it.
The “Sixth Sense”
The post concludes by suggesting that scientists have finally identified humanity’s “sixth sense.”
Again, the language sounds exciting.
But it is misleading.
Neuroscientists have studied interoception for decades.
It has never been considered paranormal.
It simply describes how the nervous system monitors internal physiological states.
Calling it a “sixth sense” transforms ordinary biology into something mysterious and spiritually suggestive.
That transformation happens rhetorically—not scientifically.
A Biblical Perspective
Christians should not fear science.
Science is the study of God’s creation.
Truth discovered through honest investigation will never contradict the God who created the universe.
The concern arises when scientific vocabulary is used to validate beliefs that Scripture rejects.
The Bible repeatedly warns believers to exercise discernment.

It also warns against seeking supernatural knowledge through forbidden spiritual means.

Readers recognize terms like interoception, neurobiology, and nervous system. Because those concepts are real, they may unconsciously assume the spiritual conclusions carry the same level of evidence.
They do not.
This is one of Satan’s oldest strategies.
Truth is rarely abandoned altogether.
It is blended with error.
The result is far more persuasive than an obvious lie.
Discernment requires learning to recognize precisely where that transition occurs.
Science may describe how your body works.
Only God’s Word can reliably explain your soul.
